ENTRY 2: Performance Task.
Macro skill: Reading.
Age of the students: 4 years old.
Topic: Story Comprehension.
Performance Indicators: The child can retell the main events of a short story in
sequence.
Assessment Resource: A simple, illustrated short story.
Method: Teacher will read a story to the class. After reading a short story to the class, the teacher will ask individual students to retell the story in their own words. Teacher will note their ability to recall key details and sequence events.
Time: 20 minutes.
Materials: Book with a short story.
There was once a hare who was friends with a tortoise. One day, he challenged the tortoise to a race. Seeing how slow the tortoise was going, the hare thought he’d win this easily. So, he took a nap while the tortoise kept on going. When the hare woke, he saw that the tortoise was already at the finish line. Much to his chagrin, the tortoise won the race while he was busy sleeping.
